Educational Work

The Informatics Workshop supports the educational work of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, STEF / TEI of Serres, by covering teaching of the laboratory part of the following courses:

  • Introduction to Computers and Programming
  • Computer Programming
  • Numerical Analysis

Introduction to computers and programming

Computer Architecture: Structure, composition, input / output peripherals.

Operating Systems: Introduction to programming, learning office applications.

Computer programming

Desktop calculations Format Type, one-dimensional lines and graphics, tables, special tables and operations between tables. Polynomials, operations of polynomials, roots of polynomials, recovery rates from the roots, interpolation. Graphs, multiple graphs, saving settings. Symbolic representation of variables, limits, differentiation / integration of symbolic functions solve problems.

Numerical analysis

Use of scientific software packages Mathematica and MatLab, to manage the following problems:
Numerical Methods: Finding roots of algebraic equations, Differentiation, Integration, Solving differential equations first order.

Interference with functions of one real and / or two variables.

The last ten (10) years, the Laboratory of Informatics of Mechanical Engineering Department, STEF / TEI of Serres, in addition to high quality education for students of the Department, is active in many areas, such as:

Design and realization of special IT seminars IT
Since 1990 many special IT seminars carryed out, funded and self-funded: seminars for learning the use of simple software tools (word processing, spreadsheets, databases), seminars for learning special software packages (engineering software, AutoCad), and finally, seminars for learning the modern informatic tools (Internet, E-Commerce).

Realization of european projects
As early as 1990 – 1991 implemented the first training program for local Graduates of Serres of Higher Education in information technology, during the A’ Community Support Frame. In 1998 carryed out the Program of Continuous Education for Engineers which was supported by the B’ Community Support Frame, under the umbrella of the Operational Programm for Education and Initial Professional Constitution (EPEAEK). Title of this program: Computer Technology and Modern Engineering Trends. The aim was the design and production of educational multimedia program for additional training of engineers.

Collaborations with scientists from Greece and abroad
Laboratory bodies had visits to TEI of Lamia, University of Patra, Institute of Computer Technology of Patra, TEI of Kavala, University of New Mexico, etc.

Partnerships with organizations of our region
In the Informatics Workshow have been established collaborations with the Municipal Company of Culture of the Municipality of Serres (DEPKA), the General Hospital, Serres Regional Theater, the Photography Workshop NELE Serres, Serres Tax Consultants’ Association, to jointly organize events and the production of CDROM for the promotion of our country.
